National Park Working Parties Several of our members are registered as volunteers with the North York Moors National Park and give their time once a month to help with footpath maintenance in the park, which give us all so much pleasure. These working parties, organised by Ray Johnson take place on the third Wednesday every month.

Our group always needs more walk leaders. Leading a group walk is a
highly satisfying experience. The Ramblers have recently updated the
training programme to ensure all our leaders are properly equipped for
the responsibility. Group's historic walk programmes All past group walks can be accessed via the archives page. There are approximately 500 walks listed and the gpx files can be downloaded to the digital mapping programme of your choice by clicking on the camera icon next to a listed walk and then clicking on the link to the gpx file. Good News Members who attended the recent Area AGM learnt that our group is the only one in the area to have experienced an increase in membership over the past year. Much credit for this must go to our superbly efficient hon. sec. and to our ramblers making newcomers welcome on walks. Keep up the good work.
The Scarborough and District group of the
Ramblers' Association is a thriving organisation with a busy programme
of walks. We are part of a long-established
national body that has a proud record of campaigning for the rights of
all who enjoy Britain's beautiful countryside. Walking is a healthy, sociable
activity for all ages, requiring little expense other than the price of
comfortable, suitable footwear and weatherproof clothes. Most of our walks start at 9.30am on
Sundays in the winter monbths and 10.00am in the summer and are taken at a pace that allows a friendly chat. There
are stops for coffee and a
picnic lunch, and we aim to finish soon after 3pm. As walkers in the Scarborough area, we are uniquely blessed with
a wide variety of countryside - well-trodden paths along the tops of the
soaring sea cliffs, the dramatic heather moors of the national park,
peaceful pastoral scenes and woodland in which wildlife abounds. In the winter, we stay fairly close
to home, but we take advantage of the longer days to explore slightly
further afield - to the boundaries of the North York Moors National Park
and into the East Riding. To find out about joining or to seek any further

.Volunteer decorating weekend at Whitby YHA January 15-17 2027 Rachel Carlin has arranged another session for 12 volunteers next year. Please let her know if you wish to be included. (rkc197@hotmail.com) . First come , first served. BVPI two-yearly footpath surveys. Every two years the National Park is obliged to carry out surveys of randomly selected rights of way in May and November. This used to be completed by park staff, but during the "austerity years" staff were "lost" and the job has since been done by volunteers from our group, Ryedale and Cleveland. The task has been overseen in recent years by Belinda Barclay, who would like a new volunteer to assist her in 2027, to learn the ropes, then take over the task in 2029.
