This starts from the short stretch of rough road on the left of the A169 about 100 metres south of Ellerbeck Bridge, which is 2 1/2 miles north of the Hole of Horcum . We’ll be walking up to Simon Howe (steady ascent, you don’t really notice the climb) and then turning right to pass Scripps Funeral Services etc and the station in Goathland ( 4 miles ). After appropriate refreshment , we are walking up the hill on the other side of the railway on a wide track, which is a little bit strenuous, and eventually passing Lilla Howe before coming down to Ellerbeck Bridge ( 12 miles in total). ETA is about 4pm. Paths and tracks are not bad unless there has been rain in which case bring your swimming costume (only joking?).
