Friday 7th June.Kettlewell - Starbotton circular. 20 walkers |
| Gary's jottings; Having arrived on Thursday, I decided to walk up Great Whernside on Friday morning, before the masses and the forecast rain arrived. It went smoothly and I was down by 12.30pm. By this time, many others from our group had arrived at the campsite, including Mike, Phil, Harry, Elizabeth. The first ‘official walk’ was due to start at 2pm and just as it turned 2pm it started to rain and everyone put on overtrousers. We climbed 1000 ft along the Top Mere Road before turning sharp left for Starbotton. The rain was pretty heavy by this time. When we got to Starbotton, we walked mainly along river back to Kettlewell. It rained all night Friday and was windy so did not get too much sleep that night. |

| Saturday 8th June. Burnsall circular via Trollers Gill. 26 walkers. |
| gpx 8.4 miles 889 ft ascent |
Gary's jottings; We drove to Burnsall and most of us found free parking along the road ready for a 10am walk. We walked along the river and eventually got to Trollers Gill near to Parceval Hall at Appletreewick. Wayne had originally planned to take us along the gorge but there was so much water coming down the gorge that not only would we have got soaked to the skin, there may also have been nasty accidents on the wet rocks so quite sensibly he took us on an alternative route. It rained on and off all day but it was not as heavy as the previous day. In the evening we had the traditional group meal at Kilnsey and the hotel did us proud, the three chefs who prepared the meal coming in at the end of the meal for sustained applause.

| Sunday 9th June. Figure of 8 walk from Grassington. 27 walkers. |
Gary's jottings:The sun dawned once again and it was a beautiful warm day. We met at the main car park at Grassington and walked through lovely wild flower meadows before arriving back at Grassington at lunchtime where we had lunch at the top end of the high street. In the afternoon we walked towards the village of Hebden and then arriving at Burnsall once again before coming back along the river Wharfe via Linton and the spectacular weirs ( full due to the recent rain ) . En route along the path by the river we came across a great spotted baby woodpecker stranded 15ft up a tree and crying for its mother. The campsite was quiet tonight, most campers and particularly the school and D of E parties had gone. The temperature dropped considerably during the night and several campers complained of the cold the next morning!

| Monday 10th June. Buckden. 18 walkers. |
| gpx 7.3 miles 906 ft ascent |
![]() |
| Gary's jottings; Another mainly sunny day. We met at Buckden for a half day walk again through delightful meadows and along the River Wharfe . We visited the church at Hubberholme which is where the ashes of J B Priestley ( ‘ Good Companions’, When we are Married’, ‘Angel Pavement ‘ etc) were sprinkled and where mice carved by ‘Mousey’ Thompson can be found on the ends of pews. We got back at around 2pm , said our goodbyes and thanks and set off for home, after a cracking weekend. A big thank you to Wayne and Donna for their organisation and planning of the weekend and the walks and the recce of the walks which entailed two or three visits in the lead up to the camp. |
