9 Brave souls ignored the dreadful forecast to start the ramble, which was billed as 9 miles. There was steady rain from the off. However after the party had sheltered for coffee in King Alfred's Tower in Chafer Wood, the heavens opened and the rain became torrential, immediately transforming the paths and lanes into rivers. Stella had pre-walked the day before, so the muddiest bits were fresh in her mind and she quickly altered the route to avoid the most dangerous areas and shortened the route to just under 7 miles. |
