After reaching the Old Alum Works, it became apparent that the Cleveland Way was too icy for a safe and enjoyable walk, so Cathryn decided to return to the "cinder track" . Having climbed to the track, the party enjoyed mulled wine and delicious mince pies before walking North on the track as far as Browside, where Cathryn was able to rejoin her planned route and return to Ravenscar over the moor.
