Wednesday June 17th, Working party near Darnholm , led by Ray Johnson |
|
Five group members joined rangers Martyn Williams and Ashleigh Overall at Bradley Hill Cottage above Darnholm. Having cleared and repaired steps starting at the bottom of the hill last month and getting about half-way up, the task on Wednesday was to repair and replace more steps near the top of the hill. After a few hours graft in the hot sun, there are still a few more steps to repair, so we may well be back there for July's task. After lunch Ashleigh led us on a butterfly safari to see some small pearl-bordered fritillaries. These pretty butterflies have seen a decline in population due to loss of habitat. We espied quite a few on birds foot trefoil, but they refused to pose for a photo shoot. |
